Salford Star reveals that council rival costs £28,000 per issue

Using the Freedom of Information Act, the Salford Star (website) reveals that the council magazine Life in Salford costs £27,797 per month to produce. The Star says that this outlay is broken down into £15,335 per issue on actually producing the magazine, £7,879 from the council's own advertising budget plus a £4,583 subsidy. Meanwhile, the Star points out, that its own news no longer comes in a printed form and that the Salford Advertiser has given up free delivery to homes. "What Salford Council spends just on staff for Life magazine per month (£1870) would sustain the printing and production of the Salford Star indefinitely," concludes the report.
