A Metropolitan police officer is to stand trial accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman he met on a website, it emerged today. Shahzad Malik, a trainee detective constable, will appear at Uxbridge magistrates court on Wednesday, charged with rape and two counts of sexual assault. A 27-year-old woman went to police on 10 January to say that an officer had raped her two days earlier at a police section house in Brentford, west London. The investigation into the incident was managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission, which announced details of the charges. Malik, 30, was based at Hounslow police station in west London. A Met spokesman said the officer is suspended pending the outcome of the trial.
