I'm wiser now after trying to insure my van
I bought a van and insured it through Be Wiser. I explained that I already owned another vehicle but didn't want to transfer the five-years no claims bonus as I still used that car. Instead I wanted the no claims history to be mirrored on the new policy. When the documents arrived I saw my year of birth was written as 1967 instead of 1977. When I phoned to correct it, the adviser said I would have to pay another £122, or £52 to cancel the policy. I then discovered the previous adviser had transferred the no claims bonus instead of mirroring it. Apparently the policy didn't allow mirroring so it had to be cancelled anyway. I accepted one with a different insurer which cost an extra £118 and then realised this included a £26 cancellation fee from the first policy. I don't think I should pay this. AC, Sale, Cheshire Drivers can apply a no claims discount to only one car, except with insurers that have introduced mirroring, or copying no claims discounts on to second vehicles. This can save a lot of money. After an investigation, Be Wiser has refunded the £493 you paid for the first policy and axed the cancellation fee. • Email Margaret Dibben at [email protected] or write to Margaret Dibben, Your Problems, The Observer, Kings Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9GU and include a telephone number.
