Pete Doherty's manager jailed for hit and run

Pete Doherty's manager has been sentenced to 12 months in jail following a hit and run last September. Andrew Boyd was driving a Daimler owned by Doherty when he struck a Suffolk man, leaving the victim in a coma. Boyd had previously admitted to charges of dangerous driving, driving without reasonable consideration, failing to stop at the scene of an injury collision, failing to report an injury collision, and driving without insurance. In addition to the jail sentence, the 42-year-old has been banned from driving for three years. "The sentence imposed today cannot repay the devastating impact this incident has had on life of the victim Chris Corder, or pain and suffering imposed on his family," sergeant Bob Patterson told the Lowestoft Journal. Corder, 42, was delivering church newsletters in Hadleigh at the time of the incident. Struck by Boyd's car, Corder suffered "catastrophic" brain injuries, according to prosecutors. He is still in a coma at Colman hospital in Norwich and will likely need constant care for the rest of his life. Corder's sister, Jennie, said she would have preferred a longer sentence. "Six months of somebody's life is nothing compared to what my brother is going to have to live through and what we are going to live through," she told BBC News. "My parents may never see my brother awake again and that's a horrible thought. I do not think that man has any remorse." During a hearing in January, Boyd's barrister Chris Henley said the accident occurred when the driver reached around to comfort his four-year-old son, who was sitting in the car's back seat. "He must have momentarily taken his eye off the road and at that moment Mr Corder must have stepped on to the road and unfortunately the collision took place. The instinctive reaction of Mr Boyd was not to stop; he should have and he recognises that."
