Fool's Gold: Fool's Gold

Indie band wielding African guitar sounds. Sound familiar? Of the clots of copyists that have come in Vampire Weekend's wake, however, Fool's Gold stand proud. This able, percolating, multi-ethnic ten-piece collective from Los Angeles can muster all the requisite goat-toe rattles and shell gourds a hip world fusion band could want. But they add further topspin to the formula by singing in Hebrew, yielding a perpetually rolling lost-tribes vibe that could soundtrack BBC4's Lost Kingdoms of Africa series. Unexpectedly great.
