BBC Breakfast's Salford move confirmed

The BBC has confirmed that BBC1's Breakfast programme and nearly 100 jobs will move from London to the corporation's new northern headquarters in Salford, just a day after first raising the prospect with staff. It is "likely" that 88 posts connected to the programme will relocate to Salford. Staff were informed that the move was being considered yesterday . BBC Breakfast will join the BBC sport, children's, learning, future media and technology departments, parts of Radio 5 Live and all staff from BBC Manchester in the relocation to Salford. The BBC has already announced that 2,300 posts are due to transfer with about half of the full-time staff who were asked to relocate agreeing to move. "Clearly this involves personal and professional decisions for the talented team who make Breakfast but we will be supporting them to reach an informed judgement about the move," said Helen Boaden, director of BBC News. "[BBC Breakfast] has a fantastic connection with audiences across the UK and we want to build on that." The BBC said that Breakfast will "benefit from an iconic new waterside location" in Salford Quays and be able to work more closely with Radio 5 Live and the current affairs and regional news services. "A stronger presence will boost opportunities for career development and increase the attractiveness of Salford as a career option, not just for BBC staff but those in all fields of journalism," the BBC added.
