Transport Scotland seeks major IT deal

According to a notice published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 10 November 2010, Transport Scotland will also require support, maintenance, CCTV, internet protocol and traffic detection equipment. The deal is for the department's network operations branch, which is responsible for the strategic road network in Scotland. It also manages the delivery of the Traffic Scotland Service, a system that enables the collection and distribution of real time traffic information occurring across the Scottish trunk road network. Transport for Scotland emphasises that the branch relies heavily on traffic and IP communications orientated computer systems. The deal will also "consolidate a number of existing contractual commitments", it added. "The contractor will be required to provide systems support staff to be based within Glasgow," the tender document says. "The contractor will also be required to provide technical and consulting support to Transport Scotland to improve the delivery of the Traffic Scotland Service." The contract will start in 2012 and will run for six years with a two year extension option.
