NUJ Regional Press awards 2010: full list of winners

The National Union of Journalists called on the newspaper industry to back the regional press awards as it handed out its prizes today. The NUJ stepped in to host the 2010 regional press awards after Wilmington pulled out . Wilmington kept the rights to the awards after selling the trade magazine Press Gazette, the former host of the awards. "The industry itself should recognise the talent of the local and regional press awards. But if they don't we will continue," said the NUJ's general secretary, Jeremy Dear. The News, Portsmouth, was named newspaper of the year at the NUJ Regional Press awards. The Johnston Press-owned paper was chosen from a shortlist that included the Cumberland News, the Hampstead & Highgate Express, the Irish News, the Nottingham Post, the Press, York, and the Yorkshire Evening Post. The News also won three individual awards.
