Compare the meerkat. Or, preferably, don't

Number five on the Amazon.co.uk list of bestselling garden pots and ornaments are these fellows, the Meerkat Family Garden Wobblers for the bargain price of £19.99. What is it about gardens that makes us want to adorn them with ornaments of dubious aesthetic and zero practical value? I can't really talk, I recently put a willow heron on display in my garden, but at least it was something made with my own hands. Plants, on the whole, are relatively cheap, so once the garden is "done", for some people the only way to relieve the wallet of spare cash is to splash it on the kind of stuff that litters garden centres across the land, from garden gongs to wooden flower pot men . I'm curious to know - what's the worst garden ornament you've had the displeasure to see, either in a garden centre, online or in a garden? Supporting photographic evidence welcome - add a link in the comments below, and/or email images to me at [email protected] . Alternatively, perhaps you'd like to defend the humble garden gnome and its exotic meerkat counterparts? Let rip in the comments below.
