James Blunt: Some Kind of Trouble – review

Blunt's third long-player comes on pretty much like the rest of his output to date. New single "Stay the Night" is a cheery, ramshackle workout reminiscent of David Gray or Natalie Imbruglia, quotes Bob Marley's "Three Little Birds" and name-checks "Billie Jean", while the guitar on "Best Laid Plans" could easily be by Mark Knopfler; elsewhere, the warm hum of Fleetwood Mac is conjured with meticulous harmonies. The bit that doesn't sound like anyone else is Blunt's singing, which is frequently heartfelt; "These Are the Words" is a particularly fine performance.
