Harry Findlay must wait until tomorrow to discover if ban is lifted
Harry Findlay, the prominent owner and professional gambler, will discover tomorrow whether he has been successful in his appeal against a six-month ban from the sport, imposed by the British Horseracing Authority's disciplinary Panel last month. Findlay did not comment to reporters as he left a five-hour appeal hearing at the BHA's offices in High Holborn, London, this afternoon. Findlay, who represented himself in the initial hearing last month, was represented yesterday by the barrister Roderick Moore , a specialist in sports disciplinary hearings, and a solicitor. The case revolves around two instances in which Findlay laid bets on one of his own horses, Gullible Gordon, on the Betfair betting exchange. However, on both occasions – one of which Findlay himself brought to the attention of the authorities – he was a substantial net backer of the horse, meaning that he stood to win far more if Gullible Gordon was successful than if it had lost. Findlay is appealing against the severity of the ban imposed by the original panel. The decision of the three-strong appeal board, comprising Sir Roger Buckley, Christopher Hodgson and Jane Gillies, is expected to be published at around 10am tomorrow morning.
