Glenn Hoddle in talks about leading Nigeria to World Cup

Glenn Hoddle could take Nigeria to the World Cup this summer. The former England coach flew to Africa last night to meet the Nigerian Football Federation. Hoddle, now 52, has run an academy in Spain since leaving Wolves in 2006. But it is thought he would be interested in a short-term appointment for the World Cup, which would then allow him to return afterwards to Jerez, where he helps released players fight back into professional football. Sven-Goran Eriksson is also on the shortlist, and is expected to be interviewed later this week. Nigeria need a head coach after sacking Shaibu Amodu, who failed to meet expectations in last month's Africa Cup of Nations. The two-time winners were beaten in the semi-finals by Ghana. Hoddle took England to the second round of the 1998 World Cup before losing to Argentina. He was sacked by the FA in February 1999 for his controversial spiritual views.
