Sunday Mirror's Mike Small joins News of the World

The Sunday Mirror executive editor, Mike Small, is to join the News of the World as associate editor. Small, who was number three on the Sunday Mirror is taking up the same position in the pecking order at the rival Sunday tabloid, below editor Colin Myler and deputy Victoria Newton. News International has also hired Gary Ollason from the Scottish Sun as head of design, prompting suggestions that the News of the World may be revamped. Myler said: "These are leading talents who will bring fresh ideas and energy to the team and help maintain a level of production quality that is already a benchmark of excellence." Small has been on the Sunday Mirror since 2001 and became executive editor in 2004 . Prior to that he worked on the Daily Mirror backbench for seven years and was the paper's night editor. He has also worked for Wales on Sunday and the Birmingham Mail and Oman Daily Observer.
