Radiohead set for Kentucky Derby

Radiohead may race in the Kentucky Derby. That is, Radiohead the horse. The three-year-old chestnut colt finished ninth at this weekend's Florida Derby and may be in the running – er, galloping – for Louisville's Triple Crown. "He's a cool, happy, curious horse," trainer Rick Dutrow Jr told the Miami Herald, using no more than two adjectives that could apply to the Oxford band. "[Radiohead's] very proud of himself. He's game, you know. He's game for an idea." Dutrow confirmed the English-bred horse was named after the band, not the Talking Heads song, nor, er, the idea of a person with an AM/FM receiver atop their neck. After he came first in a race last month, book-makers like Sportsbook are giving 20-1 odds that Radiohead will race in the Derby. These are roughly the same odds that Radiohead will release their forthcoming eighth album as a free download. Equine Radiohead's parents are not quite so indie. According to Pedigree Query (via Rolling Stone), his parents were named Johannesburg and Security Interest, but various great-grandparents have suitably Thom Yorke-ian names: Oxygian, Known Fact, and Erzulie Freda. "He knows he's going to have to show he can run against good horses," Dutrow said. At least the band don't have to compete with anyone called She's Funomenal.
