Leeds Lord Mayor visits Kirkgate Market
The Lord Mayor of Leeds, councillor James McKenna , has visited Kirkgate Market following an invitation by traders. McKenna, who was joined by Lady Mayoress councillor Andrea McKenna, was given a tour around the market, spoke to traders and shoppers and enjoyed a meal in the market made with fresh produce from stallholders during his visit on Saturday. The civic visit was arranged by traders who are campaigning for a better deal from council bosses. Struggling stallholders are calling for a rent reduction, more say in the running of the market, better promotion and more investment in Kirkgate Market. Meanwhile, guest blogger Carol Ferndale has written about shopping locally at Leeds' markets over at My Life in Leeds . What do you think? Have your say in the comments section below.
