Didn't he used to be rubbish? Ahn Jung-hwan of South Korea

A number of the South Korea squad who so jubilantly brushed aside Greece and did not do nearly as badly as the scoreline suggested against Messi and Co have experienced the cold shoulder in Britain. The midfielder Kim Jung-woo had an unsuccessful trial at Wigan while Yeom Ki-hun trained with West Bromwich without bothering to ask permission of his club side, Ulsan, first. Pride of place, however, goes to the veteran forward Ahn Jung-hwan, the player fired by the crazed Perugia chairman, Luciano Gaucci, for scoring the goal that knocked Italy out of the 2002 World Cup and whose speed-skater goal celebration in protest against an incident at the Winter Olympics involving compatriot Kim Dong-sung was denounced as "undignified" by renowned expert on good taste, Barry Venison. In January 2008 Ahn was invited to train with Blackburn but twice failed to turn up and their chairman, John Williams, lost patience. "The picture has become so intricate and confusing that all parties have agreed to draw a line under it," said a Rovers spokesman. Later the wavy-haired striker South Korea fans call "The Lord of the Ring" was linked with a move to Hearts. The then South Korea manager and former Rangers supremo Dick Advocaat claimed he was "ideal for the Scottish game". Whether that was a compliment is unknown.
