England win in Chittagong was hard work, says Graeme Swann

After steering England to victory over Bangladesh with the first 10-wicket match figures of his Test career Graeme Swann admitted relief was an overriding feeling in the visitors' camp. "It was hard work, and I think that's why [the captain, Alastair] Cook was justified in not enforcing the follow-on," said Swann. "It was horrible [yesterday] taking no wickets, we were really struggling and this morning as well was tough." Swann took 10 wickets in the match – the first time since Jim Laker in 1956 that an off-spinner has achieved that feat for England – and collected the man of the match award. "I'm quite happy with that," he said. "It's been a good 12 months for me and I'm more than happy for it to keep on going." Cook, captain in place of Andrew Strauss, revealed it would have been an "easy" decision to enforce the follow-on, claiming the bowlers "deserved a break" after the first innings. "Full credit to the way Bangladesh fought in the last innings, they made us work really hard for those last 10 wickets," said Cook. Swann, he added, "over the last 12 months has been unbelievable and 10 wickets is absolutely deserved". Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan, praised his side for making England labour for the win after the home side's poor start. "I think they have shown their character, they've worked really hard," he said.
