Electrelane to re-form for live dates
Electrelane are reuniting. The English indie four-piece have announced their return from a three-year hiatus to play a string of UK gigs. Rumours of ta comeback began on Twitter and were soon confirmed in a post to the long-dormant Electrelane website : "This summer we're going to play some festivals, including Field Day in London, and a few gigs," the band wrote. "It's very exciting for us to be playing together again after more than three years, and we're just sorry that we won't be able to make it to the US this time. At the moment our plan is just to play live this summer, so we hope to see you." Once one of the UK's most hotly-tipped bands , playing All Tomorrow's Parties, opening for Arcade Fire and the Beastie Boys, the group packed it in at the end of 2007, explaining that after 10 years of making music together, "we all need a break". While they described this as an "indefinite hiatus", not a split, the last three years have seen scarcely a squeak – apart from the occasional DJ set – from the Electrelane camp. Meanwhile, the band's reputation has grown: with their ardent, motorik noise-rock, like Stereolab meets Fugazi, Electrelane were the sort of group whose greatness became clear only after the fact. Though only one date has been announced so far – Field Day on 6 August – the band have promised more. Their Twitter username says it all: Electrelane yeah!
