TV ratings: Ant and Dec Push the Button with 6m

Ant and Dec's new ITV1 gameshow, Push the Button, began with more than 6 million viewers but lost out in the head to head with BBC1's Let's Dance for Sport Relief on Saturday 27 February. Ant and Dec's Push the Button averaged 6.6 million viewers, a 26.7% share, between 7.45pm and 8.45pm, according to unofficial overnight figures. Let's Dance for Comic Relief averaged 6.5 million viewers, a 26.8% share of the audience, between 7.15pm and 8.30pm. But when the pair were going head to head, between 7.45pm and 8.30pm, the Sport Relief show averaged 6.6 million while Push the Button averaged 6.4 million. Earlier, BBC1's coverage of England's Six Nations rugby defeat to Ireland averaged 5.2 million viewers (30.7%) between 3.30pm and 6pm. The match itself, which kicked off at 4pm, averaged 5.6 million and peaked with 6.9 million (34.5%) for its climax between 5.30pm and 5.45pm. The match, which England lost 20-16 , was up against another showing for the Rowan Atkinson movie Bean on ITV1. It had 1.4 million viewers (8.2%) between 3.50pm and 5.30pm. BBC1's coverage of Scotland's 16-12 defeat by Italy averaged 2.6 million (21.8%) between 1pm and 3.30pm, peaking with 3.4 million (27.1%) between 3pm and 3.15pm. The match itself averaged 2.8 million. Match of the Day, which featured highlights of Manchester City's 4-2 win over Chelsea – and Wayne Bridge's first on-field meeting with John Terry since news broke of the latter's affair with Bridge's former girlfriend – averaged 4.5 million viewers (26%) between 10.30pm and 11.40pm on BBC1. It easily had the better of the second half of ITV1 romantic comedy The Break-Up, starring Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston, which averaged 2.2 million viewers (11.7%) between 9.45pm and 11.45pm. BBC2's coverage of the Winter Olympics averaged 1.4 million viewers (8.2%) between 7pm and 1am, peaking at 2.5 million (11%) between 10pm and 10.15pm. It beat a double helping of movies on Channel 4. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer had 1.3 million viewers (5.4%) between 8pm and 9.45pm, while the Steven Seagal movie Under Siege had 1.3 million viewers (6.7%) between 9.45pm and 11.45pm. They had another 210,000 and 197,000 viewers, respectively, on Channel 4 +1.
