Extra, in association with Moshi Moshi Records , has arranged an exclusive gig for members featuring two up and coming acts. The gig, which takes place at The Old Queen's Head pub in Islington on 25 November , will showcase the talents of The Wave Pictures and US act Idiot Glee. Both acts have filled the Band of the Day slot on the Music site on guardian.co.uk ( The Wave Pictures; Idiot Glee ) The Wave Pictures got together in 2003. After six years of performing and touring from two different bases (Cardiff and Loughborough), the band moved together to London in 2009. Among their listed influences are Dire Straits, African pop group the Bhundu Boys, Mississippi John Hurt, the country of Townes Van Zandt and the proto-punk of Jonathan Richman. purely The Wave Pictures. Idiot Glee is 22-year-old James Friley. Born in Kentucky, he trained as a classical pianist from the age of seven. Later, he began to write his own material and although he says his influences come and go, on the current list are The Beach Boys, Fleetwood Mac, Brian Eno and Roxy Music. The event starts at 8pm and tickets cost £5 in advance, £7 on the door. It's an 18+ gig. Extra members can also get a £10 reduction on Moshi Moshi's annual subscription (usually £30).
