Channel 4 News hires culture editor
Channel 4 News has appointed Matthew Cain as its first culture editor. Cain, 35, is a former director and executive producer on the South Bank Show, where he made films about Sam Taylor-Wood, Will Young, Darcey Bussell and Michael Sheen, among others. He recently took voluntary redundancy from the now defunct show's producer, ITV Studios. Cain will have a second role at Channel 4, taking a strategic view of the broadcaster's cultural content. He is joining a new Channel 4 arts board set up by Tabitha Jackson, the broadcaster's arts commissioner, to oversee cross-platform coverage. Cain said: "I used to get very impatient and bored with long-form television, all the hours of talking. I am looking forward to fast turnarounds. I have never been interested in a reverential, worthy approach to the arts." • To contact the MediaGuardian news desk email [email protected] or phone 020 3353 3857.
