Oasis attacker escapes jail sentence

A man who attacked Noel Gallagher during a Canadian Oasis concert has narrowly avoided jail time. Daniel Sullivan, who shoved Gallagher at a Virgin festival gig in 2008, has been sentenced to 12 months' house arrest. Gallagher suffered three broken ribs at the Toronto show after Sullivan appeared on stage and shoved the guitarist from behind, forcing him into a monitor. Even two years later, nobody has figured out how Sullivan, who was extremely drunk, slipped past security and onto the main stage of one of Canada's biggest festivals. Sullivan, 48, has said he was too sauced to remember. Although scheduling conflicts prevented Gallagher from presenting a victim impact statement in person at the trial, he sent a written statement that was delivered last month. "I ended up in a heap on the floor," Gallagher said. Although the band finished the concert, he described feeling as if "hit by a bus". Oasis cancelled six concerts in North America and Europe as Gallagher recovered from his injuries. Sullivan pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm. Although prosecutors requested a sentence of six to eight months in prison, the Globe and Mail reports , the judge found Sullivan to be apologetic, and noted that he had no prior criminal history. He therefore ordered the more lenient sentence. Under house arrest, Sullivan will be allowed to continue working – but he has been barred from drinking alcohol. As for Oasis, the band broke up less than six months after Gallagher got his Torontonian shove. Noel Gallagher's solo career is presently germinating, while brother Liam allegedly continues to work with the rest of the group.
