ABCs: Daily Star Sunday's rise goes on as Mail on Sunday nears 2m mark
Richard Desmond's Daily Star Sunday was once again the only weekend popular Sunday newspaper to record a year-on-year circulation gain last month, as the Mail on Sunday crept closer to falling under the two million circulation mark. Daily Star Sunday recorded a circulation of 353,249 copies in December, a 3.28% year-on-year increase but a 0.32% fall compared to November, according to the latest figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulations. The Mail on Sunday had a 0.16% year-on-year fall in circulation to 2,000,473 copies. This represented a 3.43% month-on-month fall. News International's Sunday tabloid, News of the World, was the biggest month-on-month faller in the sector in December, down 4.5% to 2,791,773 copies. This represented a 6.56% year-on-year fall in circulation. The biggest year-on-year faller was Trinity Mirror's the People, which saw a 10.07% fall in circulation to 532,680 copies. This was a month-on-month fall of 0.21%. Its stablemate the Sunday Mirror saw a 6.89% fall in sales to 1,113,310 copies last month, down 3.04% on November. The Mail on Sunday's mid-market rival, the Sunday Express, reported a year-on-year circulation fall of 7.51% to 590,596 copies.
