Kiss and make-up: classic cologne
The classic cologne Penhaligon's Opus 1870 (£70, harrods.com ) does something odd to me – it makes me happy. I can't quite describe the scent, but it reminds me of holidays I've never been on, tobacco, old photos and picking lemons. I've never picked lemons. Does one even "pick" a lemon? I digress. This is a smell that makes men properly fanciable. It's a man's cologne, but like the most macho of perfumes, including Tom Ford for Men (£37, selfridges.com ), it works well worn sparingly on ladies, too, adding a curious waft of clean, sharp sex to a feminine walk-by. Since smelling it, I haven't been quite the same. Alternatively… Terre d'Hermès (£43.50, selfridges.com ) Acqua di Parma Colonia (£68, harrods.com ) Floris Bouquet de la Reine (£50, 0845 7023 239)
