Dyson's desk fan at a cool price

The UK summer has already lasted more than the standard five days this year, and fans and air conditioning units have become the hot sellers alongside barbecues and sun tan lotion. Dyson launched a series of bladeless fans last October to provide a greener alternative to air conditioning and a safer version of the traditional fan. It claims its specially developed technology generates a smooth, uninterrupted airflow without the buffeting of blade fans. M&S reported a 300% surge in sales of the series of Dyson bladeless fans this week as temperatures soared. Even YouTube viewers have been fascinated by the fans, with this video gaining over half a million hits. We have checked out where you can buy the Dyson AM01 12in desk fan , normally £199.99, for less. If eagle-eyed Guardian readers spot a better price then please post the details below. On-line Lords of Notting Hill is selling the fan for £175 with free delivery nationwide for orders over £45, while deals4U.co.uk is listing it for £180. In-store Comet's price of £194 can be improved on by visiting www.vouchercodes.co.uk/comet where you will find a code for "10% off all fans" that then brings the cost down to a price-busting £174.60. The delivery costs start at £5.82 but you can order online then collect in store for free (it's £5.99 more if you pick one up without pre-ordering), making this the cheapest high street deal. Cheaper alternatives People who are considering the Dyson fan are unlikely to be fobbed off with a cheap old-fashioned fan – particularly the ultra-cheap plastic variety. However, if you are really boiling you might consider Tesco's 9in desk fan for £10, while Argos has a more stylish metal 9in desk fan for £18.99. Air conditioning If you want to cool the room right down then air conditioning is the way forward. You can buy an Amcor AMC10 air conditioning unit at Currys for a bone-chilling £149.97. This unit delivers 10,000BTU and has a thermostatic control allowing you to set the ideal temperature. This unit has a retail recommended price of £349.99. If you can do without airconditioning but need a larger fan and more airflow than the desktop variety (but at a price), Dyson has developed two new models: the AM03 Tower and the AM03 Pedestal. They retail for £299 from Conran and Selfridges and online.
