Radiohead's Phil Selway says new album is 'up in the air'

Monday's a big day for Radiohead. After a summer off, the Oxford band are heading back to the studio and "taking stock" of their new album. "We might just throw this all out," drummer Phil Selway said this week. "It's all up in the air." Selway is currently promoting his first solo album, and he seems to have the glass-half-empty perspective on Radiohead's newest sessions. When bassist Colin Greenwood talked about their "new group of songs" last week, he was already considering how to release them. "[The] digital landscape ... has changed again," he wrote. "We have yet to decide how to release our next record, but ... we are trying to find ways to put out our music that feel as good as the music itself." Speaking to the Canadian Press, Selway was more ambivalent. "We've been working on material on and off for a year now," he said. "So yes, we're basically taking stock on Monday and seeing what we need to do with the material to move it to those final stages. We're just returning to it with fresh ears and taking stock of where we are and how close we are to finishing stuff, really, and we won't know till Monday." Radiohead's seventh album, In Rainbows, was a surprise release in October 2007. While the band have reportedly considered a series of digital releases, including an EP of orchestral works , they have released only a handful of one-off songs . More recently frontman Thom Yorke began gigging with a new band, Atoms for Peace , while guitarist Jonny Greenwood will debut a new orchestral work on 6 October, with Goldfrapp's Will Gregory.
