TV ratings: Glee delights 1.21m on E4
US musical comedy melodrama Glee powered to its biggest audience yet on E4 last night, Monday 15 February. The US import averaged 1.21 million viewers between 9pm and 10pm, a 4.9% share of the audience, according to unofficial overnights. This was up from 1.09 million the previous week and the previous high, of 1.1 million, who watched its opening episode on E4 on 11 January. Last night's episode, the seventh of its 22-part run, had another 293,000 viewers (1.6%) on E4+1. Glee was followed on E4 by another US import, Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show, which had 467,000 viewers (2.3%), with another 128,000 viewers on E4+1. Channel Five's Paul Merton In Europe finished its six-part run with nearly 2 million viewers, beating Channel 4's political life swap show Tower Block of Commons. The Merton travelogue, which ended in Spain, averaged 1.8 million viewers, a 7.2% share of the audience, between 9pm and 10pm. This was 200,000 more than the 1.6 million who watched the opening instalment on 11 January . Paul Merton in Europe beat both Channel 4's Tower Block of Commons , which had 1.2 million viewers, a 4.9% share between 9pm and 10pm, with another 175,000 on Channel 4+1, and the second part of BBC2's Peter Taylor documentary series Generation Jihad, which had 800,000 viewers, 3.2% of the audience. The 9pm slot was won by the final part of the second series of ITV1's Law & Order: UK, which had 5.6 million viewers (22.6%), eclipsing BBC1 docu-soap Cars, Cops and Criminals, which averaged 4.2 million viewers (17%). New BBC2 cookery show Raymond Blanc: Kitchen Secrets, the chef's first cookery programme for 13 years, began with 2.4 million viewers (9.4%) between 8.30pm and 9pm. It was only narrowly beaten by BBC1's Panorama, which had 2.5 million viewers (9.7%) in a slot predictably won by ITV1's Coronation Street, with 10.5 million viewers (40.4%). This was the second Coronation Street of the night, with 10.6 million viewers (43.3%) for its opening instalment between 7.30pm and 8pm. The soap beat BBC1's regional programme, Inside Out, which had 3.4 million viewers (13.9%). Both episodes of the ITV1 soap had more than the 10.4 million (39.6%) who watched BBC1's EastEnders between 8pm and 8.30pm. EastEnders beat ITV1 docu-soap The Lakes, with 4.2 million viewers (16.2%). BBC1 documentary Sue Johnston's Shangri-La, in which the actor went in search of the utopian land she read about as a child, had 2 million viewers (14.1%) between 10.35pm and 11.30pm. Johnston's travelogue had the edge over ITV1's music awards preview, Brits Hits 30, which had 1.2 million viewers (8.7%) between 10.35pm and 11.35pm. The fourth episode of Channel 4's US drama The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies, averaged 800,000 viewers (4.1%), down from the 1.4 million who watched its debut three weeks ago , with another 75,000 on Channel 4+1. BBC2's US sitcom Nurse Jackie had 700,000 viewers (3.6%) between 10pm and 10.30pm, while Newsnight averaged 600,000 (4%) between 10.30pm and 11.20pm.
