Michael Eavis speaks out for library campaign

Glastonbury festival organiser Michael Eavis is set to star in a Save Our Libraries campaign film, shot by the ever-active library supporters of Somerset. Wells MP Tessa Munt , Downton Abbey screenwriter and new member of the House of Lords Julian Fellowes and Anne Chisholm , chair of the Royal Society of Literature, are also set to take part in the six-minute film. The famous names will be offering their comments on the importance of libraries, books and education alongside members of the public who are being invited to shoots held this week in Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet. The film will "challenge the extent and the permanence of the cuts to library services and address the likely impact to communities both now and in the future," promises film-maker Ken Kutsch . Somerset, where the council is proposing to cease funding 20 out of its 34 libraries, is the centre of a lively protest to halt the closures , with campaigners demanding that the government hold a public inquiry into the threat to the library service – and vowing that if there is no response from secretary of state Jeremy Hunt they will organise it themselves.
