Leeds today - Breeze, food and Morley's new leisure centre
Hello Leeds! Well it is the start of a new week and the feeling around the country is sombre following England's worst ever World Cup defeat but Leeds has plenty to look forward to this week..... First, the annual Breeze International Youth Festival comes to town. Breeze is aimed at teenagers in Leeds and especially at encouraging them to showcase their talents in the world of art. The festival started last Thursday and will continue until this Friday. Full itinerary of events here . Why not try out Morley's new leisure centre, which opened its doors to expectant locals for the first time last week by Councillor Adam Ogilvie. The leisure centre boasts the largest Bodyline gym in the city with an impressive 150-stations. This weekend it will play host to a community open day with taster sessions for children and adults and a special appearance from a Radio Aire DJ. From 7pm tonight, A Nation of Shopkeepers, on Cookridge St is host to Mountain Man, Benjamin Wetherill and Fran Rogers. We reported on Friday that Leeds is expecting the Leeds Foodie Festival this weekend in Roundhay Park. Leeds University's Parkinson Court is hosting two exhibitions today. The Centenary Gallery has an exhibition showing the role Marks and Spencer, which started as a humble market stall, has played in Britain over the last 125 years. The Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery showcases drawings from several artists exploring the relationship between and drawing and experiencing place. Both exhibitions are free . With the Jane Tomlinson run fast approaching, Sue Jewell and Emily MaCauley have taken on the incredible challenge of running from their home town of Exeter to Leeds. That is 330 miles in three weeks. They are aiming to arrive in Leeds to coincide with 10k run on Sunday. One Leeds resident had a shock this weekend, reports the YEP , when he spotted a deer in distress in the River Aire, near The Calls. A fire crew and the RSPCA attended the scene where they rescued the deer from the water. They took the animal away and it is believed it was unharmed.
