Paris fashion week: Trends from the front row

1. Tucked in hair Virginie Mouzat, the fashion editor of Le Figaro and longstanding girlcrush amongst the British fashion press corps, has been tucking her long hair into the collar of her jacket all week. Backstage after Céline, Phoebe Philo had her hair tucked into her poloneck so that it looked like a bob. We are so pro this trend. Way easier to emulate than the Olivia Palermo waist-length, bouncy coke-can curls thing. 2. Baseball style jackets Emmanuelle Alt is wearing one. 3. Glamour sunglasses It has been sunny in Paris, and after two summers of experimentation with 'edgy' styles of shades, the classic bug-eyed Jackie O look is back. 4. Hats Trilbies and fedoras are becoming a front row staple on boys and girls. Bit irritating for those in the second row. 5. Long skirts Below the knee has made the leap from runway to reality. Floorsweepers and longer-line pencil skirts are outnumbering the shorter competition. 6. Court shoes The outré statement shoe is over. The power shoe de nos jours is a black high heel, probably with a hefty concealed platform. 7. Trousers As predicted, the trousers-jacket-blouse uniform has taken over from the once-ubiquitous dress. However, the wide-leg Céline pant has failed to see off the skinny. (And since Céline has now put skinny trousers on the catwalk for next season, looks like it won't.) Slim, ankle-grazing styles are currently winning the front-row numbers game. A turn up is good. 8. The no-bag lifestyle No bag is the new It bag. A Blackberry/iPhone and possibly a small notebook (Smythson, monogrammed) is so much more streamlined. 9. Advanced layering As in, a fur gilet over a rib knit, or a three-quarter sleeve jacket over a long-sleeved striped silk T-shirt. The 'contrast sleeve' effect is now being sold back to us, ready made, on the catwalk, where half of all coats seem to feature a sleeve in a contrast fabric.
