Mike Smithson's bet of the day: Who will be the next home secretary?
After the TV debate on home affairs a few bookmakers are putting up markets on who will be the next home secretary. The list of prices reflects the uncertain outlook for the general election, with representatives of three of the parties holding the first four places in the betting. Currently it is Chris Grayling at 4-1, Nick Clegg and Eric Pickles at 8-1, with Ed Miliband the fourth favourite at 10-1. It is quite easy to envisage the role being offered to Clegg as part of a coalition deal and the 8-1 from Ladbrokes might just be worth a punt. On the Tory side Grayling has had less than wholehearted backing from David Cameron in recent months and you get the feeling that he has blown his chances. The Pickles bet looks a good one if you think the Tories will be forming the next government.
