General election campaign 2010: bet of the day

For the first time Mebyon Kernow (the Sons of Cornwall) are fielding candidates in all six constituencies in the county and Ladbrokes are offering 6-4 against them saving at least one deposit. That means they have to get 5% or more of the vote in at least one of the seats. The party has been encouraged by last year's county council elections when it won 4.3% of the vote across Cornwall. The Tories won the council and they are fighting hard to stop Cornwall once again returning a full slate of Lib Dem MPs. Mebyon Kernow's pitch combines an emphasis on things Cornish with being green and left of centre and might appeal to the remaining Labour vote. They have a decent chance of reaching the threshold in at least one seat and Ladbrokes' 6-4 looks good value.
