ABCs: Sunday Herald holds firm as all Scottish papers post sales falls

All Scottish newspapers suffered sales falls last month in the annual comedown in circulation following the boost given by the Edinburgh festival in August, according to Audit Bureau of Circulations figures published today. The biggest faller in percentage terms was the Scotsman, which saw a year-on-year circulation fall of 8.68% in September to 43,435. The paper's month-on-month fall was 5.86%. The title that came closest to a good news result was the Sunday Herald, which managed to hold its year-on-year sales fall to just 0.05%. Circulation was 42,817, a 2.63% fall month on month. The Scottish edition of the Sun saw circulation fall by almost 5,500 copies compared with August to 339,586. Scottish sales of its red-top rival the Daily Record fell by more than 6,000 month on month to 294,250, with 1,963 bulks.
