St David's Day parade – in pictures

Cardiffians turned out in force despite the chilly weather to celebrate St David's Day with a parade which swept through the city centre. Cardiff council deputy leader Neil McEvoy and council leader Rodney Berman opened the event – which this year has been called the St David's Day festival – once again calling on the day to be made a national holiday. The deputy leader said council staff who wished to take the day off had been allowed to do so and called on Westminster officials to mark 1 March as a bank holiday to allow others to do the same. McEvoy said: "This is the first time we have a St David's Day festival. It's is going to get bigger and better with more celebrations for a whole week in Cardiff so we can get the whole world looking at our capital city." Berman added: "This is an imaginative celebration of all things Welsh. It's great to see so many of you taking part. Cardiff is proud to play its part in Wales's success." The parade proceeded down Kingsway led by the patron saint of Wales, along Castle Street and onto St Mary Street, before rolling down Mill Lane and back onto the Hayes for a celebration. Here's a slideshow of images from today's parade. Did you take any photos or video from today? Submit your images here or tweet me @GdnCardiff with the link.
