Leeds today - beer blogs and Leeds Festival security

Good morning, Leeds. It was a busy - and very long - executive board meeting of Leeds council yesterday afternoon/early evening. Key decisions over the future of Leeds' schools, a city centre park and funding for the city's services for the lder peopel were all on the agenda. I'll be filling comprehensive coverage today. And - just to break the council theme up a little bit - the wonderful Emma Bearman from The Culture Vulture will be guest blogging about an event with a difference at Temple Works which revolves around a cult 90s TV programme. I'll warn you now, the owls are not what they seem... Here's what's making Leeds tick Teaching staff at a secondary school in Leeds yesterday went on strike over allegations of bullying by senior management. Security will be stepped up at the Leeds Festival following two alleged rapes at a music event in Suffolk, reports the YEP . Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault on a 23-year-old woman in Leeds have appealed for witnesses to come forward, reports BBC Leeds. The Friends of Kirkgate Market have posted on their blog about Saturday's visit to the market of Leeds Lord Mayor James McKenna - there's a full report and a picture of the mayor signing the Friends' petition. Leeds Metropolitan University's YouTube channel has been ranked among the internet video provider's top ten educational channels. Our YouTube channel is currently ranked number 10 in the world, in terms of monthly views, ahead of any other UK educational establishment, and beating off stiff competition from large American universities. The people of Leeds are being urged to get out and show their love for local parks and green spaces during national Love Parks Week, reports AboutmyareaLS7 . Leeds city centre will be the subject of a Dispersal Order to continue curbing anti-social behaviour issues throughout the summer months and beyond, say police. Meanwhile, door chimes have been installed in Beeston properties ina bid to beat sneak-in burglars . Laing O'Rourke is expected to sign the contract for Land Securities' £350m Trinity Leeds shopping centre scheme within the next few days, reports Construction Enquirer .
