George Michael receiving drug counselling as he awaits court ruling

George Michael has completed a stint in rehab following a car crash last month , where he admitted to being under the influence of cannabis. The pop star apologised to fans via his website, explaining he is receiving drug counselling. "Personal problems, which I had tried to deal with myself, had clearly got the better of me," the singer wrote. "I am sorry that my pride has prevented me from seeking help before now." Michael could be sent to jail over the 4 July incident, when he crashed his Range Rover into a north London branch of Snappy Snaps. Police found him slumped over the wheel, and later appeared "spaced out". The star was found to be in possession of cannabis and tested positive for the drug. "You will understand that it would be wrong of me to go into details before the court case has ended, but I feel you should know that on the day after the incident I checked into a clinic for a 14-day detox programme here in London, which has been followed by ongoing outpatient drug counselling several times a week," he wrote. "As usual, I am overwhelmed by the support and genuine concern that so many of you around the world have expressed." Michael was released on bail and will return to court for sentencing on 14 September. He has already been banned from driving for six months.
