George Michael released from jail
George Michael has been released from prison after serving half of an eight-week sentence for crashing his car while under the influence of cannabis. Michael, 47, was freed from Highpoint prison, near Haverhill in Suffolk, according to the Press Association. The Prison Service refused to comment on individual prisoners. The singer, who had a previous conviction for the same offence, was told by district judge John Perkins that there was no option but jail. Michael, whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou, was also fined £1,250 and banned from driving for five years. He started his sentence in Pentonville prison in north London, but was moved to the category C facility in Suffolk. Michael admitted driving while unfit through drugs and possessing two cannabis cigarettes.
