Lauren Luke's dark red lips

Boots No7 soft matte-finish lipstick in purple, £10.25. Lauren says: More redcurrant than purple, it creates a subtle vampire bitten stain when blended into lips. It didn’t last as long as I’d hoped, so keep it close by for top-ups. ★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Bourjois Sweet Kiss in Rouge Intemporal, £7.99, widely available. Lauren says : Great all-rounder for day and evenings. Good for a dressed-up gothic look, but looks just as effective with natural make-up. ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Chanel Rouge Coco in Rouge Noir, £21.50. Lauren says: A gorgeous, rich shade for autumn. I love this, particularly as it lasts so long. Works well with neutral or smoky eyes – expensive, but worth indulging. ★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian MAC lipstick in Dark Deed, £13. Lauren says: Loved the dark shade and couldn’t wait to try it. Great colour that suits any style: neutral, gothic, day or evening. The packaging is quirky and collectable, too. ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Nars pure matte lipstick in Volga, £18. Lauren says: Perfect – a rich, dark matt red, and my favourite for autumn. Lovely packaging, and the slim size allows for precision application. Stays on for ages, too. ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian Rimmel moisture renew in Burgundy Delight, £5.99. Lauren says: Perfect colour and a great price. I’d recommend using this with neutral eyes and cheeks for an updated gothic look. ★★★★★ Photograph: Sara Morris for the Guardian
