Cardiff Today - Facebook ferrets, angry politicians and Penarth Pier designers
Good morning Cardiff! It's Friday but don't start winding down just yet – lot's on today. Cardiff Bloggers congregated in Pica Pica last night to share notes and ideas on how they use the web for a variety of blogging needs. I'll have the write-up to you soon with useful links and feedback so don't worry if you didn't make it. Also on the blog today, we have a feature coming up about an interesting new photography project taking place across the city. At Wales Millennium Centre tonight, Plunge by National Dance Company Wales and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru: Y Gofalw (a Welsh adaptation of Harold Pinter's The Caretaker) open and run for two nights only. We'll have reviews of both on the blog too. Julie Morgan MP for Cardiff North will take her private members bill on sunbeds to the House of Commons for the report stage today. Read the report here on WalesOnline. Penarth Pavilion project have recruited a new design team to head up the refurbishment of the iconic Victorian Pavilion building. Nearby Washington Gallery is now exhibiting a rare collection of prints of the Pier – including a limited edition deck chair. A Welsh MP has expressed concern over the London 2012 Olympics legacy for Wales – Cardiff will host a live screen for the event, reports BBC Wales. The Morgans have rejected the proposed boundary changes for Cardiff electoral wards, reports yourCardiff. Rhodri Morgan AM called the proposals - which seek to merge a number of Cardiff constituencies - 'bonkers' and his wife Julie Morgan MP said they were 'ridiculous'. A ferret with its own Facebook page owned by a Cardiff entertainer has escaped the clutches of the web, and his hutch. Mista Ferret has more than 400 friends, but he escaped from his home in Riverside on Tuesday, reports BBC Wales. Has anyone seen Mista? On the blogs, tickets for TEDxCardiff look soon to go on sale so make sure you keep an eye on their website here. With the evenings getting lighter, some lovely Cardiff city scenes have started appearing on Flickr. Djleekee has posted some of his Bay pics on his blog. What's On In Cardiff have full listings of club nights and music events in the city over the weekend (they also have a shiny new website). Finally on ebay, a 1907 cigarette card bearing the Llandaff Cathedral coat of arms has gone on sale for 99p.
