Football League bets to follow this weekend, plus our tipping contest

Welcome to our weekly Friday tipping round-up. Most of you know the drill by now, but for those that don't, every week I will post my betting suggestions for the weekend, as well as our predictions contest. Given that it's the FA Cup first round this weekend, we'll have to stick to the Championship. Doncaster to beat Millwall at 5-4 A particularly awkward round of fixtures to choose from this week, but I'll start with Doncaster, separated from Saturday's opponents by a solitary goal in the middle reaches of the Championship. Coming off a thoroughly impressive beating of Sheffield United, last weekend's wild 4-3 defeat at Reading was a tough one to take, especially as they had led 3-1 with half an hour to go. Losing Billy Sharp to injury is a blow for Sean O'Driscoll, but he moved to fill the void by acquiring David Healy on an emergency loan this week. Aside from a formbook-busting home win over Derby, the Lions's slide down the division continues apace (it's now just two wins in 10 and one away win since the opening day - against rock-bottom Crystal Palace). That's not to discredit Millwall completely; manager Kenny Jackett welcomes back Kevin Lisbie and Neil Harris to his squad as he marks his third anniversary in charge. But the Rovers should just about have enough to see themselves home. Portsmouth to beat Derby at 9-4 Six wins out of seven (and four in a row) have hauled Pompey level with the Rams on points going into this Pride Park clash and make them the form team in the division (even more than Cardiff, in my book). Sat handily in their slipstream are Derby, who looked mightily impressive last weekend when swatting Watford aside 4-1 at home (aided by an outstanding performance from full-back John Brayford). The nearest thing to a recent correlating form line would be Portsmouth's 1-0 win at Millwall, three games ago, and the Rams' 2-0 reverse at the New Den a fortnight back, and while that's not necessarily compelling evidence to back Pompey, the fact that Pompey have performed so impressively on the field during such an ongoing time of turmoil off it is. NB: prices with Betfair and correct at the time of publication Tipping contest As you'll note from the scoring, late starters have been awarded one point for every week they have missed. markier remains out in front and even found time to post an alternate standings for last week, based on each game's price (scroll to the very bottom of the comments).
