TV ratings: Dancing on Ice final skates off with nearly 10m
The final of Dancing on Ice attracted a peak of nearly 10 million viewers to ITV1 last night, Sunday 30 March. Viewing of the final hit a high of 9.782 million viewers in the quarter hour from 9.30pm to see Hayley Tamaddon and her skating partner and childhood friend Daniel Whiston skate Bolero before they were announced as winners. Gary Lucy was the runner-up, while Kieron Richardson came third. Between 7.45pm and 10pm, the programme was seen by an average of 8.786 million viewers, a 32.1% share of the available audience, according to unofficial overnights. This was down on last year's final, which was won by Ray Quinn and attracted an average of 10.8 million viewers . But the strong ratings helped ITV News to one of its best performances of the year – with 5.042 million viewers and a 21.5% share – between 10pm and 10.15pm. BBC1's late bulletin had 2.619 million (13.6%) over 25 minutes from 10.25pm. Earlier, BBC1's repeat of Jenson Button's exciting win in the Australian Formula One grand prix attracted an average of 2.562 million viewers (23.4%) between 1pm and 2.55pm. Live coverage of the grand prix attracted 1.95 million viewers and over half the available audience – a 53.7% share – between 6am and 9am. BBC1 biggest-rating show yesterday was Antiques Roadshow, at 7pm, with 6.858 million viewers and a 29.8% share. This was followed at 8pm on BBC1 by the finale of Lark Rise to Candleford at 8pm, which drew 5.802 million viewers and a 20.8% share. Factual programme The Restoration Man on Channel 4 attracted 1.786 million viewers and a 6.5% share in the 9pm hour. A further 354,000 (1.8%) watched an hour later on Channel 4 +1. In the 8pm hour on Channel 4, Come Dine With Me picked up 1.977 million viewers and a 7.1% share. Another 269,000 (1%) watched on Channel 4 +1. BBC2's top-rating programme was Wonders of the Solar System, with 3.071 million and an 11.2% share, in the 9pm hour. Channel Five's most popular programme was terrestrial premiere of the Jason Statham film Chaos, with 1.248 million viewers and a 5.4% share between 9pm and 11.10pm.
