Cardiff today - new art, radical campaigning and that blogging ignition

Good morning all, mixed bag today. On the agenda, South Wales Police in Cardiff launch a new road safety project today at 10am at the Cardiff Council Road Safety Centre. In partnership with Safer Capitol and Cardiff Council, the scheme aims to educate children about road safety and reduce the number of cars parked around school gates. At County Hall the Community and Adults services scrutiny committee gets underway at 4.30pm and the Cardiff Bloggers Meet-up takes place this evening - look out for our post later about the event. The Artes Mundi exhibition opens at Cardiff national museum – see the report here - and tell us what you think in comments below. Elsewhere in art, the second exhibition at the newly opened Third Floor Gallery on Bute Street starts tomorrow. I went to the opening of the space last month and reviewed it here. 'Up West' by David Solomons looks at London's West End and runs until 4 April. In the news, WalesOnline reports the go ahead for the redevelopment of Penarth's Billybanks estate into a modern apartment complex (formally Penarth Heights), providing they can coax out the two remaining residents. New castaway survival courses will start on Flat Holm island, read more in this feature on BBC Wales. An independent candidate for the Cardiff Central seat has chosen an alternative form of election campaigning. Alun Mathias has written a book, Vicky and the Pit, about a girl in a district called Cathays trying to solve local poverty. He has distributed the book to constituents and hopes to draw attention to his Five Apples political movement. Read more on student newspaper Gair Rhydd. Artistic Director Rowen Talbot writes on National Theatre Wales community website about bringing their Commedia dell'arte style to Wales. On the blogs, Neil Cocker writes on the furore surrounding comments made about Ignite Cardiff (which he co-founded with Claire Scantlebury ) on yourCardiff .
